THE STORY OF THE REVIVAL HERITAGE SCHOOL, BADAGRY, NIGERIA AND REQUEST FOR SUPPORT

  1. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
  2. NAME OF SCHOOL: Revival Heritage Schools
  3. OPERATOR OF SCHOOL: Missions Aid International (See 7 Below.)
  4. LOCATION OF SCHOOL: Badagry, Lagos.
  5. PURPOSE OF SCHOOL:
  • A Christian Mission School targeted at the transformation of the Badagry Community through high quality education at costs affordable to the poor indigenes.
  • To provide strategic scholarships to the really poor and to children of dead missionaries.
  1. INTRODUCTION.
  • This is the story of the transformational engagement school known as Revival Heritage School, located in Badagry, Lagos, Nigeria.
  • Badagry is a town sitting on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean at the border between Nigeria and the Republic of Benin.
  • It has a history that sadly ties it strongly and unforgettably to the trans-Atlantic slave trade as the route through which hundreds of thousands of slaves were shipped to Europe and the Americas.
  • In fact, history has it that most of the slaves on their way to oblivion looked back at Badagry and cursed the town.
  • No wonder Badagry indigenes rarely became Christians and were not known to be socially progressive.
  1. VISION AND MISSION.
  • It was under this situation that Missions Aid International chose to do a major transformational project in Badagry.
  • Our Mission was to break the curse upon the land, disciple their church leaders, change the idolatrous worldview of the people, and transform the land and the people educationally, socially and spiritually.
  • The good news is that over the last nine years of our work in Badagry, the much-desired transformation has already started on every side.
  • However irrespective of testimonies of success in our transformation agenda for Badagry and her people, the major vision of Missions Aid International for lasting transformational impact in Badagry is for an educational institution that will pick up children from their infancy and bring them up in the fear of God from crèche through the primary school and to the secondary school level.
  1. ACTION.
  • With the aid of donors we have commenced construction of this school and even commenced academic activities with the unfinished structure since August 2018.
  • With the children joining our school from infancy up to their teen ages, we are inculcating into them the Knowledge, Godliness, Drive and Character that would make them world-beaters and game changers.
  • As a mission school, we are offering high-level education at affordable cost to the people and also offering scholarships to poor folks and children of dead missionaries.
  1. CHALLENGES BEING FACED.
  • The school is experiencing several challenges that are impeding its growth and reducing our capacity to take in more children.
  • The first is that we have few classrooms available. We need to complete the building and add more classes that would enable us have more children for both primary classes and the secondary section that we desire to start next.
  • About N48.43 million is projected for the completion of the building.
  • The second challenge is about the road to the school, which is impassable during the rainy season. As a result attendance to school reduces drastically during the rainy season. So we have to practically start afresh after every rainy season.
  • About N10 million is projected for the road repairs.
  • The third challenge we face is that of working capital for running the Revival Heritage School. Our school fees are low for the standard of education we are offering due to our vision of transformational impact in a poverty-ridden community.
  • Therefore our income per term only meets the school expenses for one month. So the school is exposed, fund wise, two months of each term.
  • This short fall is expected to normalize when the school achieves the break-even target of 120 fee-paying pupils.
  • Until then, about N1.5 million is required per term or N4.5 million per year to make up for the working capital needs.
  • The fourth challenge is the need for a school bus to replace the existing bus that has served the school for 5 years and has now worn out.
  • The bus is strategic to the continuing relevance of the school because of the bad road. Most parents would prefer their children to be picked up by the school bus than to bring them to school by themselves.
  1. ASSISTANCE REQUIRED.
  • We look forward to attracting aid that will help us complete the school building, repair the roads to a usable state, get a new school bus and also tide us through the working capital shortages until the school breaks even, expectedly in two years time.
  • We understand that a single donor may or may not handle all these issues alone. We therefore pray for donors that would pick up any area(s) of assistance as the Holy Spirit leads them.
  • Such aid may come in batches as prospective donors may find convenient.
