Gidan Gizo is a community in Sumaila Local Government Area of Kano State, Nigeria. The comm
unity was deprived of basic social amenities unlike other communities surrounding it. The other villages had good roads, electricity, water boreholes, schools and even Mosques built for them by the Government. However, Gidan Gizo was left desolate because of its religious inclination. What was worse is that no child of Gidan Gizo attended school because they will not be admitted to government schools unless they were willing to convert to the “popular religion”.Gidan gizo school
The sources of water in the community were two hand-dug open wells, which were causing water borne diseases for the people. Moreover when they got sick, there was no clinic anywhere for the people of Gidan Gizo to receive medical attention without prejudice.
These people were completely cut off from the rest of the world. The absence of roads, electricity, school, public toilets, health care centre and potable drinking water subjected them to great psychological and emotional torture. Their plight came to light when Missions Aid International carried out a Free Medical Project in that vicinity in March 2006.
Two years later, in February, 2008, Missions Aid International revisited the Gidan Gizo Community with a community development project. The projects that have been completed are as follows:
1. Sinking of one water Borehole
2. Construction of 2 School blocks of 3 class rooms each
3. Construction of Clinic with Equipment & drugs
4. Purchase of Generator & Electrification of their Homes
5. One week of Free Medicare & Vocational Training
With the completion of classroom blocks, we started a school for the community in September 2008. This school has since then been a rallying point for both Gidan Gizo people and their neighbors.
